Letter: Heartbeat of the Community

To the Editor:
In 2016, there is one vote I feel positive about. I will vote “yes” for the Crystal Lake library referendum. Since 1979, I have watched the library expand and adjust as best it could within the geography available. Now, among other details, the site cannot carry the weight of all the books that could be available. It is time to carefully build the future of our library to match the character of our city.
Our library is one place we see the heartbeat of community. It supports us with opportunities for communication, learning, entertainment and gathering to share life stories. No true price can be placed on all our library offers. Yet, the fear I hear voiced is the familiar one about increased cost to individuals.
Although entering retirement, I intend to live by the words of Nelson Mandela: “May your choices reflect your hopes, not your fears.’”
